About us
At Villa San Piero, we are passionate about creating memorable experiences for our guests. Meet your hosts, dedicated to ensuring your stay is nothing short of extraordinary, and explore the unique features that make our Tuscan villa one-of-a-kind.
Meet your hosts
We would like to introduce ourselves. We are Helmut and Walburga, a couple from Germany retired after a successful career in the automotive industry and as a lawyer. With the purchase and restoration of Villa San Piero we have fulfilled our personal dream of living under the Tuscan sun. We would like to invite you to become part of this dream during your vacation.
Having lived some years abroad we know the expectations of foreign guests very well and always have an open ear for any questions. We love to gather our family and grandchildren at the villa to spend family quality time together. We also love to invite our international friends and neighbors to enjoy each other’s company with good food and interesting conversations.
Walburga’s passion is gardening and making liqueurs from the fruits and herbs of the property.
Helmut loves Gravel biking in the Chianti hills, if he is not taking care of the villa or installing new technology inside the house.
Unlock the Best of Tuscany
Based on our knowledge of the local people and the many small trips in the area and region we have gathered a lot of valuable information during time, which we share as Guest Information before your stay, so you can organize your vacation in the best possible way. As we are not staying at our property during rental season, our English speaking local property manager Natalia will take care of our guests, she is available 24/7 via cell phone and/or Whatsapp during their stay for any help and further information.
San Piero: A Journey Through Centuries of History and Art
The church and a big part of the villa date back to before 1301. The first official record of the church was documented in April 1301 in the tax books of Fiesole. In 1437 the church was partially burned down and abandoned due to the war between Florence and Siena. In 1445 the parish church was restored. Pope Julius II. allocated San Piero with decree from 12. August 1508 to the monastery of San Leolino in Panzano. To this day the most important artworks of San Piero can be viewed in the monestary church of San Leolino. Namely the triptych depicting the wedding of Saint Katharina in the presence of Saint Peter – Sienese school; 2nd half of the 14th century and a painting by Meliore di Jacopo, depicting the Madonna with child on the throne flanked by Saint Peter and Saint Paul dated 1270. In 1737 San Piero functioned as the home of the monastery’s prior and a small monastic community. The bell tower and church roof collapsed after the church was deconsecrated, they are no longer in place today. In 2004 the church building was put under monumental protection as an important heritage site in the region of Siena.
